The bear's hide was salvaged and will be auctioned in the spring.
A 20-year-old man has been ticketed for underage drinking and failing to report an accident after he hit and killed a 400 to 500-pound black bear with his car in Steamboat Springs after the bear apparently ran out in front of him. The car sustained sever front-end damage. After being able to get his car towed the following day because he had not reported the accident, the driver told police about killing the bear. The driver's name has not been released by authorities.
