Officers from Cromwell, Berlin, Rocky Hill, Newington and Wethersfield responded as part of the Mid-State Traffic Team to investigate.The drive-thru at the McDonald's was shut down as fire crews worked to put out the fire and police investigated.

Authorities say a man’s body was recovered from a burning car in a fast-food restaurant parking lot in Cromwell.

Police have identified the 70-year-old man who died Saturday when his car accelerated and crashed into a concrete wall near the McDonald's restaurant at 30 Shunpike Road.

Once the fire was out, police found Gilbert in the driver's seat.

Cromwell police and fire crews responded to the McDonald's at 30 Shunpike Road at 5:40 a.m. after report of a motor vehicle crash. When officers arrived at the scene a raging fire had engulfed the car in the back parking lot and smoke was rising from the vehicle. Fire put out the fire shortly after, but police learned that the driver was still inside and found him dead in the driver's seat. The initial investigation indicated that the driver accelerated his car through the parking lot before crashing into "a brick and concrete enclosure blocking dumpsters." Police continue to investigate what factors caused the crash and said that the cause of death hasn't been determined yet.
