Erik Brandon Blades, 18, killed in single-vehicle car wreck on Route 2 near Glastonbury, Connecticut

An 18-year-old died in a crash early Thursday near the East Hartford line, state police said. Blades attended Synergy Alternative High School and played baseball and football for East Hartford High School. Erik Brandon Blades of Christine Drive in East Hartford was driving a Honda Accord west on Route 2 before exit 5D when he lost control about 5:30 a.m., police said. The car struck a tree in the right shoulder of the road, they said.
