Ahad J. Malik, 27, killed in crash on Buckland Hills Drive on June 8 in Manchester.

Police on Monday identified a man who died in a car crash early Sunday as Ahad J. Malik of Vernon.

Malik, 27, was driving a Subaru WRX at a high rate of speed eastbound on Buckland Hills Drive when the car crossed over the westbound lanes and hit a light pole, police said. The crash happened about 2:30 a.m. Malik was trapped in the crushed car and pronounced dead at the scene, police said. A male passenger, Anil Karunanidhi, 28, of Manchester, was transported to Hartford Hospital.

While early in the investigation, police say speed and/or driver impairment may have been factors in the crash. The accident remains under investigation, and anyone who may have more information is asked to call Officer Steven Koss at 860-645-5560.
