Officials identify man killed in Somers ambulance collision

The ambulance they were using was a backup ambulance and does no affect to town's ability to respond to emergencies, officials said.

Police say it is still unclear what preceded the car going head-on with the ambulance, but that the investigation is ongoing.
A 60-year-old man died after his car collided head-on with a Somers ambulance on Route 190 on Saturday afternoon. Leonard W. King of East Windsor was pronounced deceased at the site of the crash. Four emergency medical personnel were riding in the ambulance at the time of the incident, and none were seriously injured. Police said Kate Schoenberger, 20, of Longmeadow was driving the ambulance, with passengers Joshua Marquardt, Katherine Morton, and Kara Williams. All four were taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital and treated for minor injuries. Somers Fire Department officials said the four were returning from training when the crash happened.
