According to investigators, Alvarez was riding in the center lane when the traffic in front of her slowed. She attempted stop but lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into the rear bumper of the car in front of her.
Elena Maria Alvarez, 37, was pronounced dead in Hartford Hospital where she was sent after the accident about 4 p.m. near the I-91 Exit 25/26 off ramp. Police said she lost control of her motorcycle attempting to slow down because of slow traffic on the highway. She was wearing a helmet, police noted. Neither the driver of the car she hit, nor the driver of the car that her riderless motorcycle spun into, were hurt, police stated. The accident and subsequent investigation caused traffic to be diverted off northbound I-91 for several hours.
