Fatal accident on State Road 82 in Immokalee
Florida Highway Patrol is reporting a fatal crash on SR 82 and Gator lane in Collier County.
88-year-old man dies in Immokalee crash
Alexander Altieri of Cape Coral was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred about 7:50 p.m. on State Road 82 near Gator Slough Lane, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, a Mercedes Marquis was going west on SR-82 just past Gator Slough Lane. At the same time, a box truck was going east on SR-82 approaching Gator Slough Lane. The driver of the Mercedes was trying to pass a semi and entered opposing traffic. The driver of the box truck tried to avoid a collision and steered to the right. However, the left front side of the Mercedes struck the left front side of the box truck -- causing the Mercedes to go off the south side of the roadway. The Mercedes stopped after the top of the vehicle hit a tree. The driver of the Mercedes died. The passenger in the Mercedes was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital for minor injuries. No charges have been filed at this time. It happened on SR-82 near Gator Slough Lane at around 7:51 p.m.
