A 32-year-old bicyclist was struck by a van and killed Thursday evening in Putnam County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

State troopers said Nathan Stuckey, of Georgetown, was riding southbound on County Road 309, south of Whitey Lane, within the lane of travel about 6:10 p.m.

Troopers said Stuckey had no lighting equipment or a safety helmet, and because of the dark roadway, the driver of the van, 47-year-old Pamela Robertson, of Crescent City, failed to see him until it was too late.

The van's front hit Stuckey's bike, and Stuckey was thrown into the roadway. He died at the scene.

Troopers said speed was not a factor in the crash.
