Larry Gartrell, 67, dies when motorcycle struck by teenage driver on State Road 524 and Adamson Road in Cocoa, Florida
Ashland man killed in Florida motorcycle accident
Police have identified a 67-year-old motorcyclist killed in a Monday afternoon crash involving a teen driver, who investigators said crossed lanes on a busy highway and veered into oncoming traffic.
Larry Gartrell of Cape Canaveral, and formerly of Ashland, Kentucky, was pronounced dead at the scene within minutes of the 1:35 p.m. crash near State Road 524 and Adamson Road.
Investigators said charges are pending in the case.
Troopers say the 17-year-old Merritt Island teen was driving a 2004 Audi and approaching Adamson Road when she moved from the eastbound lane into oncoming, westbound traffic.
Since motorcycle crashes often end in serious injuries, victims need immediate help
Motorcycle accidents are more likely to end in serious injuries or death for the motorcyclist, since the rider is not protected from the force of a collision. When a motorcycle accident happens, the injured rider needs immediate, appropriate medical care, the accident needs to be investigated, and the insurance companies need to be informed.
When a motorcycle crash is caused by negligence, additional steps need to be taken to protect the legal rights of the injured motorcyclist or the family members of someone killed in a motorcycle crash. Go here to learn more about motorcycle accidents and claims.
