Sumter Electric Cooperative is conducting its own investigation of a fatal crash between one of its bucket trucks and a car, the company said Sunday.

Tennessee boy dead in US 27 crash in Leesburg, troopers say

The intersection of U.S. 27 was blocked off for traffic homicide investigation by FHP.
A truck driven by David "Dave" Raber, 59, a longtime Sumter Electric Cooperative employee, rear-ended a Kia Soul driven by Channing Strong, 28, of Cookeville, Tenn. Strong and his wife, Lena Strong, 29, were seriously injured and taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center. Their 5-year-old son, Olan, was transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, where he was pronounced dead. Raber, of Howey-in-the-Hills, was treated for minor injuries and released from Leesburg Regional Medical Center. SECO Energy is doing an internal investigation. The crash happened about 3:35 p.m. Saturday on southbound U.S. Highway 27 near Plantation Boulevard, south of Leesburg. Raber failed to slow down as he approached the back of the family's car, and troopers are investigating why. No charges have been filed. Both drivers and all passengers were properly restrained and alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
