The baby had been restrained in a car seat and the adults were wearing seat belts, troopers said.
On Friday morning in Ocala, a Nissan Altima with a 33-year-old woman driving and an 8-month-old boy in a car seat was southbound on the Northwest 80th Avenue when the woman slowed down in the 1500 block to make a lefthand turn into a driveway, according to Floriday Highway Patrol. As the car slowed, a GMC van rear-ended the Nissan, pushing the car off onto the eastern grassy shoulder. The van spun and rolled over, while the back off the Nissan was crumpled up to the back seat, where the baby was sitting. The van driver, a man, was taken to West Marion Community Hospital in stable condition. The woman and child were rushed to Ocala Regional Medical Center and transferred to Shands, where the baby boy was in serious condition and the woman was stable.
