Woman, 18, killed in crash near UCF

An 18-year-old woman was killed in a single vehicle crash near the University of Central Florida Friday night. The Florida Highway Patrol said the woman, whose name has not been released, was traveling southbound on Alayafa Trail and trying to make a U-turn at University Boulevard and lost control when a tire on her car blew out. The car left the roadway, overturned, and then struck a pole. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers said a small puppy in the car was not injured.

An 18-year-old killed in a crash near the University of Central Florida campus Friday night was identified as Helen Lewis-Verdu of Orlando. Montes said alcohol was involved in the crash, but did not have more details. Lewis-Verdu was wearing a seatbelt. She had a small puppy in the car with her, which was not injured, Montes said. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
