BRADENTON, Fla. -- There are reports of two people killed in a fatal crash on 6488 Lakewood Ranch Boulevard in Bradenton, Fla. early Saturday morning. The crash has closed a portion of the road between Summerfield Parkway and Clubhouse Drive as Florida Highway Patrol investigate the scene.

Florida Highway Patrol officials say Brendan Shreve, 17, and Jared Duran, 15, were riding in a Mercedes early Saturday when Shreve failed to negotiate a curve and struck a tree in the median. Authorities say the impact separated the rear of the car from the front. Half the car traveled into the northbound lanes and the other half traveled in the southbound lanes. Authorities are investigating the cause but say speed may have played a role.
