Double fatal crash shuts down US 301 in Bradenton

Two people are dead after a crash on U.S. 301 in Bradenton, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The crash involving two vehicles happened at the 63rd Avenue E intersection. Both the northbound and southbound lanes of U.S. 301 are shut down between State Road 70 and Whitfield Avenue. Check back here for more information on this developing story.

About 2:50 a.m., an Infiniti RX35 driven by Kenneth Jackson, 29, of Palmetto, was heading north on U.S. 301. As he approached the intersection with 63rd Avenue East, Jackson passed a witness, entered the intersection without stopping for a red light and hit a tractor-trailer pulling tandem trailers that was turning left from southbound U.S. 301 onto 63rd Avenue East, according to a news release.
