Trevor William Clements, 22, and Brenda L. McKenzie, 46, killed, and Eric Selke, 22, and John McKenzie, 53, injured in collision involving motorcycle and SUV on State Road 44 in Lecanto, Florida
Two die in Citrus County crash
The oncoming SUV prompted a motorcycle rider, John McKenzie, 53, of Crystal River, to make an evasive maneuver to avoid the vehicle. This caused McKenzie to lose control of his motorcycle. It flipped over and struck McKenzie's passenger, Brenda L. McKenzie, 46, also of Crystal River. Brenda McKenzie was also pronounced dead at the scene.
2 dead, 2 injured in Citrus County crash
Just before 10 p.m., a Jeep was traveling east on SR-44 when it crossed into the center median and overturned in the westbound lanes. A motorcycle tried to avoid colliding with the overturned Jeep, but also overturned, troopers said.
Since motorcycle crashes often end in serious injuries, victims need immediate help
Motorcycle accidents are more likely to end in serious injuries or death for the motorcyclist, since the rider is not protected from the force of a collision. When a motorcycle accident happens, the injured rider needs immediate, appropriate medical care, the accident needs to be investigated, and the insurance companies need to be informed.
When a motorcycle crash is caused by negligence, additional steps need to be taken to protect the legal rights of the injured motorcyclist or the family members of someone killed in a motorcycle crash. Go here to learn more about motorcycle accidents and claims.
