The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating an overnight crash that left one man dead.
A fatal motorcycle crash occurred on Little Road just north of Plathe Road in New Port Richey. A man and woman on a motorcycle came upon a disabled car stopped in the outside lane with its hazard lights on and tried to avoid a crash, but collided with the disabled vehicle. The man and woman landed in the road. The driver of the motorcycle, 54-year-old Michael Powell, was pronounced deceased at the crash site. His passenger was taken to Bayonet Point Hospital where she is in critical condition. Neither rider was wearing a helmet.
Since motorcycle crashes often end in serious injuries, victims need immediate help
Motorcycle accidents are more likely to end in serious injuries or death for the motorcyclist, since the rider is not protected from the force of a collision. When a motorcycle accident happens, the injured rider needs immediate, appropriate medical care, the accident needs to be investigated, and the insurance companies need to be informed.
When a motorcycle crash is caused by negligence, additional steps need to be taken to protect the legal rights of the injured motorcyclist or the family members of someone killed in a motorcycle crash. Go here to learn more about motorcycle accidents and claims.
