Man arrested after crashing into mobile home, killing couple

A 36-year-old man was arrested months after authorities say he crashed his SUV into a Florida mobile home in April, killing a man and his pregnant girlfriend. According to accident reports, the SUV crossed the median, crashed through a fence and struck the mobile home. Christian Crawford of Bradenton was arrested Wednesday and faces three counts of DWI-manslaughter among other charges. Palmetto police Chief Scott Tyler says more details will be released during a news conference Thursday morning. The impact killed 21-year-old Ivan Carlos and 18-year-old Brenda Avilez, who was nine-months pregnant.

Police tell The Bradenton Herald that the SUV was heading north on a highway early Wednesday when it lost control, crossed the median and crashed through the fence at the Lone Oak Mobile Home Park in Palmetto, south of St. Petersburg.

Crawford's sentencing is scheduled for October 30th and carries a maximum of 45 years in prison. 

At around 2:30 a.m. in the Lone Oak Mobile Home Park, a Chevy SUV driven by 35-year-old Christian Crawford was northbound on U.S. 41 when he crossed the median at 7th Street West, crashed through a fence and through the back of a mobile home at Lot 108. The residents sleeping inside were killed, identified as Ivan Carlos, 22, and Brenda Avilez, 18. Avilez was in advanced stages of pregnancy, and her unborn child did not survive. Crawford was brought to Manatee Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. We'll update this story as more information becomes available.
