Investigators with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office are gathering information in a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred late Friday in Seffner. A 25-year-old Texas man was found dead on the side of South Parsons Ave., approximately ¼-mile south of Old East Hillsborough Ave. Thomas Dean Woods had been hit by a vehicle. According to a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office report a motorist passing by called 9-1-1 just after midnight to report a man laying in the grass. Deputies determined Woods died as the result of a hit-and run and quickly blocked all traffic in the area. A preliminary investigation revealed that Woods was walking northbound on South Parsons when he was struck by an unknown vehicle from behind. The victim was critically injured by the impact but the driver of the vehicle did not stop and offer assistance and instead sped away. Detectives have learned that Woods had a permanent address listed in Navasota, Texas but had been currently living in various locations in southern and eastern Hillsborough County. It is not yet known why Woods was walking on South Parsons Ave. when he was killed.
