A Middleton High School student involved in a pedestrian accident on East Hillsborough Avenue has died.

Two teenage sisters were injured after a driver struck them early Tuesday morning. A Tampa Police spokesperson says Norma Velasquez-Cabrera, 15, and Victoria Velasquez-Cabrera, 14, just left their apartment in the Meridian Pointe complex and were walking to Middleton High School. As they tried to cross East Hillsborough Avenue, they were hit by a car at 7:15 a.m. Norma is critically injured, Davis said. Their mother rushed to the hospital to be with them. The driver of the sedan is Deja Johnson, 17, a student at Hillsborough High School. Police said the sisters were not at a crosswalk. Johnson stopped immediately after the crash and Davis said it doesn't appear to be her fault.Johnson was not injured. TPD officers are still on scene investigating the crash. All lanes on Hillsborough Avenue are now open near N 22nd St.
