A fatal crash in Venice occurred at around 10:30 a.m. Friday on I-75 just south of the River Road interchange in Venice when a Toyota and a Ford were traveling in the right lane.  The Toyota driver failed to notice the Ford in front of her and crashed into it, causing both vehicles to rotate into the shoulder of the road and strike a pine tree.  At this point, the Toyota caught on fire. The passenger in the Toyota, 77-year-old Fort Myers man, was pronounced dead, while the driver, a 76-year-old woman also from Fort Myers, was taken to Venice Regional Hospital in critical condition.  The driver of the Ford, a 62-year-old man from The Villages, suffered serious injuries.
