The Florida Highway Patrol has arrested a Zephyr Hills man and three of his family members in connection with a head-on hit-and-run crash that sent a Pasco County Sheriff's Office deputy to the hospital. Deputy Darren Hill, 29, of Wesley Chapel was seriously injured when his cruiser was hit by a F-150 Ford truck in Wesley Chapel area early Wednesday morning, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office. Investigators say Bertin Jaimes, 25, was driving the truck that hit deputy Hill's cruiser. They say Jaimes had just left a party at 9811 Pangola in Land O' Lakes and was on State Road 54 and Loury Drive near Wesley Chapel when he hit Hill's cruiser. Jaimes then got out of the truck and left the crash scene. He wound up at his brother's Zephyrhills home, which was 5.7 miles away from the crash scene. Investigators do not know how Jaimes made it to his brother's home. They say Jaimes then called his wife, who came and picked him up and took him back to the party. Jaimes was arrested Wednesday morning. His wife, brother and sister-in-law were also arrested on obstruction charges, because investigators say they knew about the crash and Jaimes' alleged involvement with it and did not contact authorities. Deputies had received the call about the accident around 4:20 a.m. from the public, according to PCSO. Deputy Hill also activated an emergency button on his radio. Deputy Hill suffered at least one broken leg and other injuries, according to the Pasco Co. Sheriff. The accident closed SR 54 for four hours. Bertin Jaimes was charged with leaving the scene of a crash with serious injury, driving with an expired license, and driving left of center. Jaimes' wife, Gladys Patricia Soto, 24, his brother Jose Carmen Jaimes, 29, and his sister-in-law Jazmin Sanchez Aquirde, 21, were charged with obstruction.
