Pickup crashes into broken down Tri-Rail bus in Boca Raton.

Boca Raton city police are investigating a crash that occurred between a pickup and a Tri-Rail commuter bus that broke down Monday evening, a department spokeswoman said.

The crash happened at at about 7 p.m. on Military Trail, just south of Spanish River Boulevard. Traffic homicide investigators have been called to the scene, which is standard practice for all crashes involving serious injury, said Officer Sandra Boonenberg, spokeswoman for Boca Raton police.

A Tri-Rail spokeswoman said a shuttle bus was having mechanical trouble and was waiting to be towed when it was it was hit from behind. The bus was unoccupied when the crash occurred, she said.

A man driving the pickup sustained injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, the spokeswoman said.

It was the second incident within the county today that involved a commuter bus and a truck. In West Palm Beach, nine people went to various hospitals with minor to serious injuries earlier Monday afternoon after a Palm Tran bus was hit from behind by a dump truck.
