A woman died when she drove off the road and into a Delray Beach canal on Friday, after heavy rains caused flooding which concealed the edge of the road and body of water, authorities said.

The Palm Beach Sheriff's Office was investigating the incident at Via Flora and West Atlantic Avenue.

The woman died at the scene.

Heavy rains and flooding closed roads and schools and destroyed several cars and homes in Palm Beach County Friday.

Certain areas received double digits amounts of rain, according to the National Weather Service. in Boynton Beach, 17.72 inches were recorded.

The flooding had I-95 southbound lanes closed early Friday in Boynton Beach.
