State Patrol officers say that the 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe, that Davis was driving, failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection. The vehicle then traveled 451 feet out of control through a church yard and overturned several times before coming to a rest on its roof.

Former Auburn University football star Philip Lutzenkirchen reportedly died in a car accident on Sunday. Georgia State Patrol say that 22-year-old Joseph Ian Davis and 23-year-old Philip Lutzenkirchen were killed in the accident, which occurred at 3 a.m. at the intersection of Upper Springs Road and Lower Springs Road in Troup County in Georgia. State Patrol officers say that the 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe, that Davis was driving, failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection. The vehicle then traveled 451 feet out of control through a church yard and overturned several times before coming to a rest on its roof. Officers stated that Davis was the driver of the car and Lutzenkirchen was a passenger in the back seat. State Troopers drew blood from Davis at the scene to determine if alcohol was a factor in the accident. Davis was pronounced dead at the scene after being partially ejected from the vehicle. Lutzenkirchen was pronounced dead at the scene after being ejected from the vehicle. Officers say that 22-year-old Elizabeth Ann Seton Craig was ejected from the car and was taken to West Georgia Health System in LaGrange. State Patrol officers say 20-year-old Christian Tanner Case was treated for injuries and was then released.
