5-year-old girl dies while playing on school monkey bars

The school district officials told Action News that 10 teachers and paraprofessionals were supervising the playground when they found Andrea. Other children were playing nearby when the accident happened. Newton County Coroner Tommy Davis said the death has been ruled accidental, but the investigation is not over.

It happened during recess at the Newton County Theme School. School officials and responding officers performed CPR on the child.

A vigil was held for DeBruhl at Covington First United Methodist Church Wednesday evening, with community members showing support for the young girl’s family and each other in this time of sorrow.

According to news report, teachers and paraprofessionals were supervising the playground at the time of her death. It is unclear how this tragic death could have happened if she was being supervised properly.
