Woman arrested after hitting, killing 85-year-old pedestrian.

A 50-year-old woman has been charged in a fatal pedestrian hit-and-run accident that happened in unincorporated Norcross on Sunday.

A 50-year-old woman has been charged in a fatal pedestrian hit-and-run accident that happened in unincorporated Norcross on Sunday.

Authorities say Ruth Escobar struck 85-year-old pedestrian Kanaiyalal P. Patel near Kings Ridge Drive and Singleton Road around 6 p.m.

Escobar was driving a a maroon 1999 FordF-150 pickup at the time of the accident. According to reports, she struck the pedestrian as they were crossing the road after she failed to yield at a stop sign.

The pedestrian was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center with life threatening injuries and later died as a result of the injuries he sustained after being struck by the vehicle.

Escobar did not stop and render aid to the driver but a witness followed her home and authorities arrested her, at that location.

She is currently being held at the Gwinnett County Jail.
