A Darien man died in a head-on collision Monday when his compact car collided with an SUV as he tried to pass several vehicles, the Georgia State Patrol said.

Matthew Mangrum was driving on U.S. 17 when he tried to pass several vehicles at once. His car crashed head-on with a vehicle driven by Rebecca Davis. She and her passenger, Lauren Davis, were transported to a local hospital. Mangrum was pronounced dead at the scene.
