Both women were killed in the crash marking the 3rd fatal wreck in Effingham County in just one week. The occupants of the pickup truck, two teenage girls, were taken to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah with what were described as life-threatening injuries.

The visitation for Megan Kessler, a special education teacher at Effingham County High School, and her mother Marlys Stempke of Allenhurst, will be on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Thomas C. Strickland and Sons Funeral Home.

Born in Albuquerque, N.M., Megan was a special education teacher at Effingham County High School for the past eight years. She was a very loving mother to her children and her students.

17-year-old Rachel Conley was arrested on Friday and booked on 3 counts of Homicide by Vehicle in the 2Degree, Failure to Exercise Due Care, and Improper Passing on the Left.

Deputies say Megan Kessler, a special education teacher at Effingham High School, and her mother, Marlys Stempke of Allenhurst, were traveling in a van along Old Augusta Road shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday when a pickup truck crossed into their lane, killing both women. Kessler leaves behind a husband, two sons and an infant daughter.
