An accident along Kalakaua Avenue caused a major traffic snarl and landed a man in jail.

Honolulu police say at about 2:30 a.m. Thursday near Makaloa Street a car lost control and slammed into a utility pole, bringing it and another pole down.
Kalakaua Avenue was closed while crews fixed the poles.
Traffic backed up all the way into Waikiki.
The road was reopened at about 12:45 p.m.
The driver of the car, 56-year-old Wayne Ramel, was arrested for drunk driving, driving without a license, and refusing to submit to a breathalyzer.
He was released from police custody after posting bail.
