Hilo man dies following Kona motorcycle crash

The other driver in the crash, a 52-year-old man from Hilo, was not injured in the crash.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

At about 3:00pm, Darryl Arruda, 66, was riding a motorcycle with a group of seven other motorcyclists when the lead motorcycle suddenly slowed at the intersection of Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway and Kealakehe Parkway. Arruda, unable to stop in time, crashed into the rear of the lead motorcycle and both bikes flipped. The lead motorcyclist was uninjured in the crash, but Arruda sustained severe damage to his head and was pronounced dead after being brought to the hospital.
