Burton Salas, killed, after his motorcycle, traveling at a high rate of speed, crashes into a guardrail on North Kihei Road in Kihei.

A man was killed in a single motorcycle accident on Maui.

The crash happened just before 10 p.m. Wednesday in Kihei.

According to Maui police, a 2005 Suzuki GSX-R750K motorcycle operated by Burton Salas was traveling north on North Kihei Road. Police say the motorcyclist failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and collided into a guardrail.

Authorities say Burton sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Investigators say speed was a factor in the crash. The involvement of drugs and alcohol has not been determined as the investigation is still pending.

This is Maui County’s 6th traffic fatality this year.
