5-year-old boy seriously injured, transported to hospital, after he is struck by a commercial truck, while riding his bicycle on Fairview Avenue in Boise.

Boise Police are investigating a traffic accident on Fairview Avenue Monday afternoon that left a 5-year-old boy seriously injured.

Witnesses say the boy was riding a bike, and following a 5-year-old girl who had just crossed Fairview on her bike, when he entered the traffic lane and was hit by a large commercial truck.

The accident happened at 3:28 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Fairview Avenue at North McKinney Lane, just east of Cole Road.

Police say the boy was rushed to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. The boy's parents were on scene a short time after the accident and are said to be at the hospital with him.

Officers say they're treating the investigation very seriously.

“Officers want to do all they can to find answers as to just how this collision happened that left this child injured,” said a spokesman for the Boise Police Patrol Division. “We appreciate the patience of motorists this afternoon as we close a busy section of road during a very busy time of day to investigate.

If this were a member of our family, we would want a very thorough investigation and that’s what officers are doing.”

The eastbound lanes of Fairview Avenue at Cole Road were closed for several hours to allow crash re-constructionists to investigate.

The driver of the truck, a Caldwell man, was not injured.
