Woman dead, man and kids injured after pickup crashes in remote canyon.
A crash in the remote Owyhee County foothills has left three people injured and one dead. The Owyhee County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy stated that a couple and their two young children were driving off road not far from the Hemingway Butte recreation area near Reynolds Creek Road.
Police stated that a 21-year-old female died in the accident and a 36-year-old man, later identified as Jake Canoy, was taken by air ambulance to Saint Alphonsus in Boise. Bowman did not know the extent of the man's injuries. We're told both the man and woman are from the Melba area.
Bowman says two boys, ages 5 and 8, were also injured and taken to local hospitals. One boy sustained a broken wrist, the other received minor injuries.
Bowman says the group arrived in the area Tuesday night for a camping trip. He says it looks like the truck they were in tumbled off the top of the ridge and down in to the canyon.
"At this time we don't know exactly what happened, we do see at the top of the hill that there's an old road, the vehicle seems to have come off that road and come right down the mountain," said Bowman.
Bowman said it was hard to find the scene since it's such a remote area and the man involved in the crash had called a relative, who was relaying their location to dispatchers. He said it took responders about an hour to find the truck.
