Mansfield area pilot killed in helicopter crash

Paul Reynolds was piloting the crop-dusting helicopter in the vicinity of Piatt County Highway 2 and County Road 1300 E when it crashed, said the Piatt County Sheriff's Office.
A rural Mansfield man was pronounced dead at the scene of a helicopter crash that occurred Tuesday morning north of Mansfield. Paul Reynolds was piloting the crop-dusting helicopter in the vicinity of Piatt County Highway 2 and County Road 1300 E when it crashed, said the Piatt County Sheriff's Office. The Bell 47G-5 aircraft hit power lines, then crashed in a field, added Elizabeth Cory, spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration that is conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash in conjunction with the National Transportation Safety Board. The helicopter was owned by Reynolds Aerial Service of Mansfield. The sheriff's office responded to the scene after receiving a call at 10:48 a.m. Tuesday. Northern Piatt Fire Protection District also was dispatched to the scene.
