A Michigan man died in a Friday afternoon collision with a semitrailer cab that ran a stoplight, police said.
The collision, which involved three vehicles, was at the intersection of Baseline and Arsenal roads, Elwood Police Chief Fred Hayes said.
Donald W. Lundberg, 51, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which happened at 12:03 p.m.
“Speed definitely appears to be a factor,” Hayes said.
The cab was traveling without a trailer. Witnesses told police the semitrailer cab headed southbound on Baseline ran a red light and struck the driver’s side of Lundberg’s 2002 Chevy Impala, Hayes said.
The semitrailer cab then collided with a 2005 Dodge Ram pickup truck, which was stopped in traffic facing north on Baseline attempting to make a left turn on Arsenal. The cab crossed the intersection and came to rest in the Joliet Army Training Center property in the southeast corner of the intersection.
The drivers of the semitrailer cab and pickup truck suffered minor injuries but refused medical treatment.
Addison resident Siefeddin Khattab, 32, was identified as the driver of the semitrailer cab. He was cited for disregarding an official traffic control device and failure to reduce speed.
