Cell phone use causes car versus semi crash in Whiteside County
At approximately 7:18 am on May 20, 2017, crews responded to an accident on Highway 30 at Emerson Road outside of Sterling.
The Whiteside County Sheriff's Office says that a 63-year-old Port Byron resident was traveling east bound on Highway 30 when she was distracted by her cell phone. Her vehicle drifted into the west bound lane where it collided with a westbound semi tractor-trailer.
The driver of the car was taken to CGH Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the semi, a 68-year-old Wisconsin man, refused treatment at the scene.
