Illinois miner killed in accident, investigation underway

An investigation is underway after a Marion, Illinois man died in a mining accident. The miner is 20-year-old Tyler Rath of Marion, Illinois. The accident is being investigated by the Mine Safety and Health Administration and the Illinois Department of Mines and Minerals. Around 11:30 p.m. the body of a miner was brought to the surface and pronounced dead by the coroner. The Franklin County Coroner says he was notified of a fatal accident at the M-class Mine located on North Thompsonville Road in Macedonia, Illinois around 9:00 p.m.

For more information on the funeral services, click here. According to the preliminary autopsy results, Rath died of blunt trauma to the head, neck, trunk, and extremities. Funeral services will immediately follow. Sunday at the Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home in Marion, Illinois.
