27 vehicles damaged after I-39 pileup, Interstate remains closed

The Illinois State Police say nineteen tractor trailers and nine passenger vehicles were damaged after a series of crashes triggered the pileup during a fast moving snow storm that had white out conditions at times across much of north central Illinois.

Yesterday’s snow littered the interstate with dozens of accidents including several semi truck crashes.

The Illinois State Police says nineteen commercial vehicles and nine passenger vehicles were involved in a property damage crash on I-39 just south of El Paso, Illinois Thursday afternoon.

State police say that several of the semis spilled their loads on and around the roadway.

Miraculously, no injuries were reported among the motorists that were involved in the crashes.

Several other area highways were experiencing significant issues, including I-74 eastbound near Champaign which was completely blocked for a while after a crash involving several jack-knifed semitrailers, police said.
