David Jones, 74, killed and Sarah Jones, 71, injured in 5 vehicle crash caused by semi truck on I-39 on June

A Pecatonica man is dead after a 5 vehicle crash on I-39.

The accident happened on I-39 South, between Baxter Road and Route 72. Illinois State Police say a semi-truck didn't slow down for traffic, hit the car Jones was in and sent it into a ditch. Then hit another vehicle sending it into the median. The truck continued on hitting two more vehicles before finally ending up in a ditch. The passenger of the first vehicle that was hit, died. Police identified him as 74-year-old David Jones. The driver of that vehicle, 71-year-old Sarah Jones, was airlifted OSF St. Anthony Medical Center for treatment.

The semi-truck driver and two others were also taken to an area hospital. Police cited the semi-truck driver, Jay Taylor of North Judson, Indiana for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
