Allen County coroner identifies victim of fatal crash on Christmas morning

On Friday, the coroner identified the victim as 33-year-old Aleksandr Bogun of Arcola.

In a tragic early morning incident on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, a man lost his life in a single-vehicle rollover crash on West Washington Center Road in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The accident occurred in the 6000 block, between Kruse Drive and Flaugh Road, just before 4:00 AM. When Fort Wayne Police Department officers responded to the scene, they discovered a male victim lying beside a vehicle that showed evidence of having rolled over during the crash. Emergency responders pronounced the man deceased at the scene. The Fort Wayne Police Department has indicated that excessive speed appears to have been a contributing factor in the crash. The incident is currently under active investigation by both the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Coroner's Office, who are working to determine the full circumstances of the accident.

Location and Infrastructure

The 6000 block of West Washington Center Road is situated in a developing area of northwest Fort Wayne, characterized by a mix of industrial facilities and residential neighborhoods. This stretch of roadway serves as a major east-west connector between US 33 and Interstate 69, experiencing significant commercial and commuter traffic throughout the day. The section where the crash occurred features a gradual curve and is bordered by industrial developments. The posted speed limit in this area is 40 mph, with additional warning signs present for the curved section. The location's proximity to major industrial parks makes it a frequent route for both passenger vehicles and commercial traffic, particularly during shift changes at nearby manufacturing facilities.

Legal Rights and Considerations

Under Indiana law, the deceased's family may have grounds for various legal claims related to this tragic incident. Indiana's wrongful death statute (Indiana Code § 34-23-1) provides specific provisions for surviving family members to seek compensation for medical expenses, funeral costs, lost future earnings, and other damages. The statute of limitations for wrongful death claims in Indiana is generally two years from the date of death. Insurance considerations may include personal injury protection coverage, uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage, and potential claims against third parties if road conditions or vehicle defects contributed to the accident. In single-vehicle accidents where speed is a factor, insurance companies may scrutinize coverage limitations and policy exclusions. An experienced Fort Wayne personal injury lawyer will handle all aspects of the legal claim.
