Police say they have a man in custody about two miles from the scene of a crash early Saturday after leading police on a chase that went into two counties.
A police officer was injured in that crash and the suspect reportedly fled the scene with two children that had been in the back seat.
The situation began around 2 a.m. when a Hendricks County K-9 officer attempted to make a traffic stop on South Raceway Road and County Road 100 South.
The driver took off and led police on a chase that went into Marion County. A Brownsburg officer joined in the pursuit as the car headed south on Ameriplex near Kentucky Avenue.
Both vehicles crossed Kentucky Avenue and went through the yard of a residence. The suspect vehicle narrowly missed hitting the house and continued through a hedge and a fence. The Brownsburg officer’s vehicle, however, hit the front of the house.
The Brownsburg officer was taken to the hospital to be checked out for pain in his chest and shoulder. His police dog appeared to be unhurt.
Police identified the suspect as 30 year old Ryan Ogden.
After the crash Ogden reportedly fled the vehicle along with two children, a three year old and a 9 month old.
A police helicopter joined in the search of a nearby field and wooded area. Around 4:30 am, the chopper pilot directed officers on the ground to an area where they located the 3 year old child. The child appeared to be shook up and said he was hungry. The child told officers Ogden still had the 9 month old with him.
Medics took the toddler to the hospital to be checked out.
Police searched an area around Kentucky Avenue, Mendenhall Road and Camby Road.
Police say Ogden had been spotted leaving a gas station and walking south.
Shortly after 6 a.m. Police got a call from a resident in the 7800 block of Kentucky Avenue who told them a man came to their door carrying a small child covered in blood.
Ogden was taken into custody. The 9 month old was taken to the hospital for treatment of head and leg injuries.
