Indiana State Police officials said Fort Wayne Trooper David Haines was driving northbound on the four lane divided Muncie Bypass, just north of Cowan Road, when he looked away from the road at his car computer near a railroad crossing.
When he looked back, he realized a westbound train was entering his side of the roadway. He was unable to stop his car from hitting the engine of the train; however, the Norfolk Southern train was able to stop.
An Indiana State Police trooper was involved in a crash with a train on Friday. The trooper, from Fort Wayne, was expected to be OK. Investigators were trying to determine whether the trooper hit the train or the train hit the trooper.
