Accused Jeffersonville bank robber caught in Louisville
Jeffersonville police said a man entered the bank at 2917 East 10th Street shortly before 3 p.m. and told the teller he was armed. He then fled the scene. Officer Robbie Grinestaff was on the way to respond to the robbery and was driving east on 10th Street in a 2007 marked city police cruiser with the emergency lights and siren activated about 3 p.m. when he crashed into a Red 2011 Honda CRZ driven by Thornton at the Main Street intersection. Both drivers involved in the accident were transported to University of Louisville Hospital, including Officer Robbie Grinestaff, 29, a former baseball star at Jeffersonville High School and the University of South Carolina, and Mary Love Thornton, a 47-year-old Charlestown woman. The crash happened in the eastbound lane, but Goodin said it isn’t known yet whether Thornton was west on 10th Street making a left turn or if she was crossing 10th Street going north on Main Street.
