Teen critically hurt in weekend crash in Pleasant Valley

Scott County authorities have released the name of the teen hurt in a car crash over the weekend. It happened early Sunday, May 10, 2015 on Valley Dr. in Pleasant Valley.

Bettendorf teen remains in critical condition after Sunday crash

The cause of the accident remains under investigation. Police said Mr. Russell was not wearing a seat belt and that the road is lined with dense trees and is poorly lit.

Jonathan Russell of Bettendorf, Iowa, was heading west in the 25600 block of Valley Drive in Pleasant Valley when his vehicle slid sideways at a curved part of the road, according to Deputy Thompson with the Scott County Sheriff’s Department.  His vehicle went into a grassy shallow ditch, hitting a telephone pole and two trees.

Bettendorf teen dies from injuries after weekend crash

Russell was air-lifted by a MedForce helicopter to University Hospitals in Iowa City in critical condition. On Wednesday, May 13, 2015, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office reported that he died from his injuries.
Jonathan Russell, a senior at Bettendorf High School, was driving westbound on Valley Drive when he missed a turn and his car went into a ditch. The car then struck a utility pole and two trees. Russell had to be extricated from his vehicle and was airlifted to University Hospitals in Iowa City in critical condition. He was reportedly not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. On Wednesday, May 13, 2015, it was reported that Russell had passed away.
