The company that hired a Colorado man who died when he hit a toll plaza on the Kansas Turnpike says it appears the man was asleep at the wheel.

A semi-trailer, driven by Sergiy Angelchev, 30, crashed into a toll booth on the westbound lane of I-70 near milepost 217 near Bonner Springs, officials said.

Sergiy Angelchev dead at the scene and another person was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

Two of the three entry lanes to the turnpike were closed for an investigation. The only lane that remained open was the K-Tag lane. All drivers could use that lane until the other two lanes were reopened, a Kansas Turnpike official said.
