The Kansas Highway Patrol says the preliminary investigation shows that a driver of a Toyota Highlander traveling south in the northbound lanes struck a Nissan Leaf head-on. The Nissan driver died in the crash.67

Police identified the driver of the Nissan as Robert Joseph Rowland III, 54, of Shawnee, Kan. Rowland was killed in the crash.
The Toyota driver was identified as Samantha L. Geier, 32, of Overland Park, Kan. Geier was hospitalized with injuries, though the extent wasn't revealed in a news release.
