Topeka motorcyclist dies after suffering critical injuries in wreck.
A Topeka motorcyclist who was critically injured Friday in a wreck with a sport utility vehicle in western Shawnee County died Saturday afternoon, authorities said.
Shawnee County sheriff’s Deputy Scott Gilchrist said Jerry Johnston, 42, died from injuries he sustained about 5:15 p.m. Friday at S.W. 29th and Indian Hills Road.
Gilchrist said a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer turned in front of the Harley-Davidson, failing to yield to Johnston, who struck the SUV.
Investigators continue to probe the collision, Gilchrist said when asked if charges may be pending against the SUV’s driver, identified as Robert Graham, 23, of Topeka.
Graham was uninjured.
The sheriff’s office said the motorcycle was traveling east on S.W. 29th when the westbound SUV made a left turn in front of the motorcycle at the intersection with S.W. Indian Hills Road.
Johnston, who the sheriff’s office said wasn’t wearing a helmet, suffered unspecified head injuries.
The wreck shut down the intersection for around 4 and a half hours.
