Man dies late Thursday after Monday crash on I-70 in Topeka

A man who was critically injured in a crash on Interstate 70 over downtown Topeka on Monday has died, Topeka Police Lt. Stuart said she received an email at about midnight confirming David A. Cottrell, of Topeka, had died. Cottrell'€™s red truck had struck the center wall on eastbound I-70 between the S.W. 1st and S.E. 3rd exits at about 2:24 a.m. He had to be extricated from the truck and was listed in critical condition the morning of the accident, though police later reported his condition had stabilized. Colleen Stuart confirmed.

According to police, the crash happened around 2:30 a.m. The road was shut down for several hours. The crash involved one car with one person inside. Emergency responders had to take apart the pickup to get David Cottrell out.
