Illinois Woman Killed in Acadia Parish Crash

Investigators say when Ferris changed lanes and began to pass a vehicle, the cargo in the trailer caused it to sway.

An Illinois woman is dead after a crash in Acadia Parish Wednesday afternoon.

Troopers say the crash involved a truck hauling a trailer on eye-ten eastbound near mile marker 85, west of Rayne around 12:40 p.m. Troopers say a truck driven by 55-year-old Robert Ferris was driving eastbound with his wife and rear passenger, 47-year-old Sandra Farris and right front passenger, 19-year-old Marissa Farris, while hauling a trailer. Investigators say when Ferris changed lanes and began to pass a vehicle, the cargo in the trailer caused it to sway. Investigators say Farris lost control of the vehicle, traveled off the roadway, and hit a tree. Sandra Farris was thrown from the vehicle, and was pronounced dead at the scene. Robert and Marissa Farris were hospitalized. Their extent of injuries are unknown.

Deputies say none of the people in the vehicle were wearing seat belts.

Impairment is not considered to be a factor in this crash; however, a blood sample was collected from Farris so a toxicological analysis can be performed at the LSP Crime Laboratory. Those results are pending and this crash remains under investigation.
