Jerry Meaux, 74, killed, after his pickup collides with another pickup, driven by Blaire Duhon, 22, who was arrested for DWI, on Louisiana 342, near Scott.
Scott woman booked in fatal accident.
State Police arrested a Scott woman accused of drunken driving and hitting a pickup head-on Thursday afternoon on La. 342, killing the pickup’s driver, a 74-year-old Duson man.
The crash happened about 12:45 p.m. east of La. 35, also called Abbeville Highway, on La. 342, also known as Golden Grain Road, State Police reported in a news release.
Blaire Duhon, 22, was driving a 1993 Chevrolet pickup westbound on La. 342 approaching a right curve when, for reasons still under investigation, the truck crossed the center stripes and struck an oncoming 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck head-on, said Trooper 1st Class Stephen Hammons, a State Police spokesman, in the release.
The driver of the 2006 pickup, Jerry Meaux, was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafayette Parish Coroner’s Office, Hammons said.
Duhon, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. She later was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on counts of driving while intoxicated, vehicular homicide, driving left of center and littering, Hammons said.
The crash remains under investigation. Troopers obtained routine toxicology samples from Meaux, which will be submitted to crime lab analysts.
